Kids and Cultures Kicks off A World of Fun! Tour

On June 29, the Wenger family of Kids and Cultures launched their fifth summer of performing with the premiere performance of A World of Fun!, at Jarrettsville Branch Library in Harford County, Maryland. Check out their schedule of library performances through August 4.

Taste the World Returns!

On May 29, 250 people from Lancaster, Dauphin, and York Counties participated in Taste the World, a fundraiser walking and sampling tour of downtown Lancaster's cultural restaurants.

Because of the success of the event, Kids and Cultures is planning another Taste the World event for August 28. Tickets are now available.

Kids and Cultures Featured in Fig Magazine

Fig Lancaster, the glossy guide to the best downtown places to eat, shop, and play, has selected Kids and Cultures as one of the first three non-profits to feature in their new social mission project. The spring edition, with an ad about Kids and Cultures on page 26 and 27, hit the streets on May 13. The publication has a readership of more than 50,000, and in addition to local distribution is mailed to subscribers in Philadelphia, Maryland, and New York.

Film Featured in KIDS FIRST! Film Festival

Really Big Field Trip Turkey, the children's travel documentary produced by Kids and Cultures and MaxFilms, has been endorsed by KIDS FIRST!.

The film has also been selected to be included in the second quarter 2009 KIDS FIRST! Film Festival. Screenings take place in more than 100 different venues nationwide, including established film festivals, art and children's museums, nonprofit film centers, community centers, and similar venues. It's the largest children's film festival in the world.

KIDS FIRST! is a program of the Coalition for Quality Children's Media, a collaboration of more than 10,000 concerned adults who screen and recommend quality media for kids.

"Take a Hike" in Lancaster City

Kids and Cultures has placed a multi-stage puzzle tour with a microcache at the end! The locations are all international restaurants and stores in and near downtown Lancaster, Pa.

You’ll discover a wealth of cultures, from Greek to South American, Italian to Korean, British to Japanese, Mediterranean to Caribbean, and lots of places in between.

We’re in the middle of a busy summer of introducing children (and families) to world cultures!

1. KIDS AND CULTURES CAMP: 79 campers visit five continents
In June, guests from Nepal, El Salvador, Poland, Iraq, and The Gambia shared their culture with 79 elementary aged children at the sixth annual Kids and Cultures Camp. 2. BURGERS AND EXCHANGE STUDENTS: To benefit Kids and Cultures
How can your purchase of a hamburger or your hosting of a French student benefit Kids and Cultures? Shuey’s Burgers is donating 100% of proceeds from the sale of their delicious burgers, beginning July 8 (until they raise $500!), to the programs of Kids and Cultures. Shuey’s is located at Eastern Market in Lancaster, Pa. (visit http://www.ShueysBurgers.com for details). Echanges Culturels Internationaux is seeking host families for French teenagers who will spend 20 days in the Lancaster, Pa., area this summer. For each new family that states they wish to help Kids and Cultures, and hosts a student, ECI will donate $50 (visit http://www.ecilancaster.com for details). We thank these two businesses for their support.

3. A WORLD OF FUN! Interactive presentations come to libraries
The Wenger family of Kids and Cultures present their fifth year of Summer Reading Program performances with their latest original stage presentation. A World of Fun! is a 45-minute, fast-paced trip around the world exploring games, stories, music, toys, art, dance, and more from six continents. In July, we'll be at all 17 of Lancaster's public libraries (plus a bunch more in surrounding counties in Pennsylvania and Maryland). 4. FAMILY CAMP: Join us for fun activities from around the world
Kids and Cultures Family Camp will be held August 10 to 12, 2009, 9 a.m. to 12 noon, at Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, Pa. Family Camp is for children in grades 1 to 8 and their parents. The activities are designed for families to work, learn, and have fun together! Learn capoeira (a Brazilian martial art), try drumming for peace, create a 3D Indian clay picture frame, play global games, and learn to make an apple pie (and see the world). 5. EMBASSY ROW TOUR: Scheduled for August 17
Mark your calendars for another Embassy Row Tour, a one-day bus trip from Lancaster, Pa., to four embassies (Korea, Madagascar, Georgia, and Guatemala) in Washington, D.C., on Monday, August 17. 6. TASTE THE WORLD: Returns on August 28
The first Taste the World event, held on May 29, was a huge success, raising funds for Kids and Cultures and introducing folks to the delicious variety of cultures in Lancaster, Pa. The next Taste the World event is scheduled for Friday, August 28, 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets are now available at http://www.KidsAndCultures.com/tastetheworld.

7. TV: Channel 11 releases three Kids and Cultures features
