April 2005
Dear Friends of Kids and Cultures,
Happy April!
CULTURES OF THE WORLD DAY CAMP
In 80 days from today, we kick off the first week of this year's "Cultures of the World" Day Camp. The camp, for children finishing grades 1 to 5, will be held June 20 to 24 and June 27 to July 1, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, on the campus of Millersville International House. Campers will “visit” a different country each day with stories, music, crafts, games, snacks, and guests from other countries. April 30 is the deadline for early registration; complete registration information is now online.
If there is a child you know who would benefit from camp, please pass along this information to the child's family. If you would like to contribute scholarship funds to help a child or children attend camp, please send a check payable to Kids and Cultures (memo: camp scholarship) to Kids and Cultures, 823 N. Duke St., Lancaster, PA 17602-2021. Thank you!
SUMMER LIBRARY SHOWS
We only have five more openings for our summer library storytelling show Who Outsmarted the Czar? Check the list at http://www.Czar.KidsAndCultures.com; click on Where To See Us. If your local library is not on the list, contact the children's librarian to schedule us. All four of us will be involved in the storytelling, so it's a real family event you won't want to miss!
BOARD UPDATE
In March we added Lisa Landis to our board of directors. Lisa is the host of the Kids Cookie Break, a Saturday morning radio show on WJTL, FM 90.3, in Lancaster, Pa. You can meet our board members at www.KidsAndCultures.com; click on About Us and then Our Board of Directors. Our expanded board meets for the first time this month. We are continuing to look for qualified people to add to our board. If you know of someone who brings experience and interest in kids and cultures, please refer them to us.
THIS MONTH'S FEATURED RESOURCE
Around the World in 80 Tales, compiled by Nicola Baxter and illustrated by Roger Langton, is a delightful children's book. Traditional stories and legends are retold and beautifully illustrated from all corners of the world. Find additional recommended resources at http://www.KidsAndCultures.com (click on Directory).
END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR
Some people have asked us if it's too late to schedule our storytelling shows yet this school year. No! We still have some openings in May and the beginning of June for end-of-the-school-year assemblies. So, if you've procrastinated in planning an assembly or want to reward students with an extra assembly, visit the Book Us section of http://www.KidsAndCultures.com.
HAPPY APRIL FOOL'S DAY
In honor of April Fool's day--the silliest day in our culture--we're extending to recipients of our e-newsletter an 11% discount for A World of Sillies storytelling shows booked (deposits received) this month. Contact us for details.
Thanks for your interest and support, and as always, send us your ideas!
Until next month,
Timm, Kristina, Katia, and Thaniel Wenger
