December 2004
Hello friends of Kids and Cultures,
Happy December!
THIS MONTH'S FEATURES
- International Playtime, by Nelson and Glass, is a whopping collection of classroom games and dances from around the world. "The best $5 I've spent for Kids and Cultures!" (according to thrifty shopper Kristina).
- Check out the fun site at Oxfam's Cool Planet site for kids at http://www.oxfam.org.uk/coolplanet/kidsweb/children.htm. Find out what it's like to spend a day with a child from Mali, Brazil, Ghana, Russia, India, or Afghanistan. The site includes photos, games, and lots of great information about life as a child in other parts of the world.
- Visit our Resource Directory at http://www.KidsAndCultures.com for ideas of cross-cultural books, events, and music to give as presents to children on your list.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS
- On December 31, we'll be performing Treasures of the World (including make-it and take-it activities) at LancasterFest in downtown Lancaster, Pa. For location, times, and ticket information, visit http://www.lancasterrec.org.
- The world premiere of our new show, A World of Sillies, is on Thursday, January 13. Join us at Ross Elementary School in Lancaster at 6:30 p.m. for international hors d'oeuvres followed by a sampling of the new show. A limited number of FREE tickets is available at http://www.aWorldOfSillies.org.
HIGHLIGHTS AND STATS
As promised, here's an update from our first year:
- Approximately 1,200 people experienced our Treasures of the World storytelling shows
- 12 children participated in the Cultures of the World Day Camp, co-sponsored with Millersville International House (we’re planning for two weeks during the summer of 2005!)
- Approximately 750 unique visitors visited our websites, including our Directory of Resources
- The two of us volunteered more than 1,000 hours for Kids and Cultures.
- Best quote: “I wish we could go to all these places you’re telling us about.” Amy, 3rd grader
YEAR-END GIVING
Please consider giving a tax-deductible year-end financial contribution (from $12 to $1,200) to help us continue our mission to introduce children to world cultures. If you are not able to give financially at this time, we are also in need of connections (know a good CPA or grant writer?) and volunteers. Please visit the “Wish List” section of our website http://www.KidsAndCultures.com for a list of specific giving opportunities.
Thanks for your interest and support, and as always, send us your ideas!
Until next month,
Timm, Kristina, Katia, and Thaniel Wenger
