KIDS AND CULTURES WELCOMES TWO NEW BOARD MEMBERS
Kids and Cultures is pleased to introduce two cultural educators to our board of directors. Daryle Diedrich (Martinez) is a Navajo/Apache elder who lives in Willow Street, Pa. Also known as "Soaring Hawk," he makes presentations at schools, summer camps, and scout troops about Native American culture and history. Phoebe Bailey of Lancaster, Pa., is the executive director of the Bethel Harambee Historical Services, and performs in the Underground Railroad production called "Living The Experience." She has created new shows for school groups and is the author of “An African American Cookbook.” We are grateful for their willingness to join the board and share from their years of experience.

CULTURES OF THE WORLD DAY CAMP: Registration begins in two weeks
Kids and Cultures and Millersville International House are joining together once again to bring you a week of stories, music, crafts, games, snacks, and guests from other countries! Sign up for Week 1: June 19 to 23, 2006 OR Week 2: June 26 to 30, 2006. Camp is held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on the beautiful campus of Millersville International House. Campers "visit" a different country each day and create their own travel scrapbooks. Online registration begins on March 15, 2006.

We are still accepting applications from prospective guests from other countries. If you know of a cultural organization (or an individual or family from another country who lives in the Lancaster area) that might be interested in sharing their culture with our campers, contact us this week to request the Camp Guest Application. We are also seeking corporate and individual sponsors to underwrite some of the expenses of Camp in exchange for publicity. Contact us to request our Camp Sponsor packet to find out more about this opportunity.

ANIMALWHYS: Coming to a library near you this summer
We're beginning to fill up our summer schedule with AnimalWhys, featuring all four family members. The show, which is packed with animal pourquoi tales from around the world, ties in with the national library summer reading program theme of Paws, Claws, Scales, and Tales. Please contact your local library to request AnimalWhys for this summer, and we hope to see you there!

CULTURES OF THE WORLD CLUB FOR FAMILIES: Next stop-Iraq
It’s not too late to join our monthly Club! Here’s what one nine-year-old member said recently, “Club is a program where you learn about other places. I think the best parts are the snack and the stations where you can make things and do things from that place. If someone did not want to go to Cultures of the World Club, I would say, ‘You should come. There are all kinds of toys, games, and food from that land.”

We hear a lot about Iraq in the news these days. Here’s an opportunity for children and their families to learn more about the country and its people as we "visit" Iraq on Tuesday, March 7, 6:15 p.m. at Millersville International House. For more information and to pre-register, visit www.KidsAndCultures.com or call 717-290-6948. Registration deadline is Friday, March 3.
