HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Celebrating two years and a milestone.
Kids and Cultures has received notification of our exemption from Federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. We are thrilled! This marks a significant milestone for any non-profit organization, especially a young one like ours. The 501(c)(3) status provides recognition of our legitimacy as an organization and a tax-deductible incentive to potential contributors.

The news comes just as we are celebrating the second anniversary of Kids and Cultures, having incorporated in Pennsylvania on November 1, 2003. We estimate that in the past two years we've presented cross-cultural assemblies, classroom presentations, camps, clubs, and shows at special events for approximately 5,000 children and adults from Philadelphia to Carlisle, Fredericksburg to New Freedom. Our fiscal year ends on October 31; watch for a special Kids and Cultures year-end update around Thanksgiving Day.

Visit www.KidsAndCultures.com for information about how you can make a tax-deductible contribution to support the vision of Kids and Cultures. Thank you!

WINNING SCHOOLS: We meet the press in Carlisle.
In October, we gave away three free performances for daytime school assemblies. The winners are Mooreland Elementary School and Letort Elementary School in Carlisle, Pa., and Park Elementary School in Columbia, Pa. In Carlisle, we met with The Sentinel reporter Kerry Hoke, who experienced one of our shows and interviewed us. CULTURES OF THE WORLD CLUB FOR FAMILIES: Next stop--Guatemala.
In October, the Club "visited" Cuba, including special Cuban guests Enrique Castro and Danny Diaz. On November 1, Club members will "visit" Guatemala. The Club meets at 6:15 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at Millersville International House. For more information and to pre-register, visit www.KidsAndCultures.com.

SPOTLIGHT: MU's Cultural Showcase.
Millersville University is holding a Cultural Showcase on Thursday, October 27, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Student Memorial Center. This special cultural event features foods, a fashion show, and dances from around the world. Call 717-872-3352 or 800-681-1855 for more information. (We attended this event a couple years ago, had lots of fun, and learned a lot! We hope to see you there.)

SPOTLIGHT: The Fulton Opera House presents New Kid.
When Nick arrives in the United States from “the Homeland,” he discovers many new things: baseball, Big Macs, and prejudice against “Homelanders.” In this wonderfully inventive comedy, students learn of the hopes and fears of anyone considered different. Told from the viewpoint of Nick-who speaks English while all the American kids speak a silly gibberish-students come to appreciate what it truly feels like when struggling to adapt to new friends, a new school, and even a new country. New Kid raises issues about tolerance, diversity, peaceful conflict resolution, the pressure young people feel to “fit in,” and so much more!

This show will be presented at The Fulton on November 19 at 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. and is available for school assemblies now through May 2006. Visit http://www.atthefulton.org/pages/index.php?pID=85 for more information.

SAVE THE DATE: Kids and Cultures to premiere new show.
Mark your new calendars for the evening of January 20, 2006, when we kick off our new show Why, Why, Why in the World? with excerpts from our new summer show AnimalWhys. Read next month's e-newsletter for more information about this free family event.

Thank you for your interest and support, and as always, send us your ideas!

Until next month,

Timm, Kristina, Katia, and Thaniel Wenger
