October 2003
Hello friends of Kids and Cultures.
Our feature this month is another book by the creative folks at Dorling Kindersley, this time in conjunction with UNICEF. In "A Life Like Mine: How Children Live Around the World," children describe the simple and sometimes remarkable things that enable them to lead a good life. Meet Mahasin from Sudan, Sbongile from South Africa, Arif from Bangladesh, Mayerly from Colombia, and many other children in bright, colorful photos and informative spreads.
Mark your calendar! Our first assembly presentation, "Treasures of the World" is scheduled for Tuesday, November 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lancaster (Pa.) County Library. Come ready to listen, interact, create, and learn with stories from around the world. For more details and to register (beginning November 10), call 717-396-9313, ext. 5.
We have begun the incorporation process for Kids and Cultures. As a non-profit corporation, we will be exempt from paying state taxes for materials, we will be able to receive contributions that are deductible for the donor, and most importantly at this stage of development, we will be able to seek grants and gifts-in-kind from foundations and corporations. We'll keep you posted!
Thanks for your interest and support, and as always, send us your ideas!
Until next month,
Timm, Kristina, Katia, and Thaniel Wenger
