September 2004
Hello friends of Kids and Cultures,
Happy September!
It’s back to school season in the United States, and a good time to let PTOs, teachers, and principals know about our Treasures of the World school assemblies and classroom events. Refer them to www.TreasuresOfTheWorld.org, or send us their names, titles, and contact information. We appreciate your help in getting the word out! (In addition to schools, we’ve also recently booked a camp and a homeschool association, and have been in conversation with a retirement community!)
THIS MONTH’S FEATURE
This month’s featured resource is the book Children Around the World by Donata Montanari. This charming informational picture book introduces young readers to 12 children from countries around the world. Fresh and appealing, the unique multimedia artwork features fabric, paper, mesh, string, and felt. Each child emerges with a distinctive and engaging personality. With simple words and delightful pictures, Children Around the World explores themes of commonality and diversity. (By the way, if you borrow this book from the Lancaster Library, you’ll see that a copy was donated by Kids and Cultures.) There are also several great events happening this month including the Festival of Nations at the Selinsgrove Speedway, Celtic and Indian music at the Lititz Library, and International Days at Dutch Wonderland. Visit our directory of kid-friendly cross-cultural resources at www.KidsAndCultures.com for more information about this book, these events, and other resources.
WHERE WE WERE…
On August 14, we participated in Global Fair, a celebration of cultures in downtown Lancaster. Throughout the day, Kristina told folktales on the children’s stage, and we provided a "bag stamping" activity for kids who attended. We met hundreds of children and their families and made some great connections. You can see photos of the day by visiting www.TreasuresOfTheWorld.org, and clicking on Photos (scroll down to LancasterFest).
…AND WILL BE
Look for us at International Days at Dutch Wonderland on Saturday, September 25. Visit www.DutchWonderland.com for more details about the event. Thanks for your interest and support, and as always, send us your ideas!
Until next month,
Timm, Kristina, Katia, and Thaniel Wenger
