FAMILY FUN (AND FUNDRAISING) EVENT: One week from today!
Our Family Fun (and fundraising) Event, is next Friday, September 8, at The Gardens at Conestoga House, 1608 Marietta Ave., Lancaster, Pa. The event kicks off at 4 p.m. with a pool party, followed by international hors d’oeuvres at 5:30 p.m., and a program entitled “The Best of…” at 6 p.m. During the program, Kids and Cultures will present folktales from around the world and unveil three new projects. The MCs for the event are children’s entertainer Steven Courtney and Kids Cookie Break radio hostess Lisa Landis.
The international hors d’oeuvres include donations from La Dolce Vita Italian Bakery and Rice & Noodles Vietnamese Restaurant. Board member Phoebe Bailey will also prepare samples from An African American Cookbook, which she authored.
Attendees will have the opportunity to make a “pinwheel for peace” to plant in their communities on the International Day of Peace (see below).
The event also includes a silent auction (see below). The suggested donation for the event is $7 per person or $25 per family. Reserve tickets by September 5 at www.KidsAndCultures.com, or by calling 717-290-6948. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held September 15. Please contact us if you would like to volunteer at this event.
SILENT AUCTION: Bid this week!
If you are not able to attend next week’s event, you can still support Kids and Cultures by bidding on the silent auction items listed on our website. KEEPING THE NEIGHBORHOOD CLEAN: JSID donates trash receptacle
James Street Improvement District and Kids and Cultures are working together to keep their neighborhood clean! On August 25, JSID installed a trash receptacle along the street in front of the home offices of Kids and Cultures. JSID has placed 44 receptacles in the north/west part of Lancaster City in the past two years, with business and home owners taking responsibility for emptying the trash.
FEATURED EVENT: International Day of Peace is September 21
In 1981 the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution declaring an International Day of Peace. In 2001, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a new resolution declaring September 21 of each year as the International Day of Peace.
The resolution: "Declares that the International Day of Peace shall henceforth be observed as a day of global ceasefire and non-violence, an invitation to all nations and people to honour a cessation of hostilities for the duration of the Day..."
and “Invites all Member States, organizations of the United Nations system, and non-governmental organizations and individuals to commemorate, in an appropriate manner, the International Day of Peace, including through education and public awareness, and to cooperate with the United Nations in the establishment of the global ceasefire.”
Visit http://www.worldpeace.org/peaceday.html for ideas of how you can participate.
Thank you for your interest and support, and as always, send us your ideas!
Until next month,
Timm, Kristina, Katia, and Thaniel Wenger
