Friday, September 10, 2010, 5 to 8 p.m.

Take a walk downtown...around the world! Join us for the fourth Taste the World fundraising event for Kids and Cultures.

At each of nine cultural restaurants in Lancaster, Pa., attendees can taste a sample of the restaurant's specialty. Where else can you try authentic Jamaican grilled salmon or fried tilapia, Italian pasta salad and bread, Asian green tea ice cream, Colombian oatmeal drink, a French-inspired crepe, Greek hummus or gyro, Dominican plantains with salami, Irish bangers and mash, and Mexican pork carnitas with rice and beans all at one meal?

The participating restaurants are Annie Bailey's Irish Pub, Coffee Shop Colombian Bakery, Island Caribbean Restaurant, La Cocina Restaurant, La Dolce Vita Italian Courthouse Bakery, Rachel's Cafe & Creperie, Sakura Asian Fusion & Sushi Bar, Cocina Mexicana, and Spyro Gyros. There will also be an open house of Kids and Cultures new office space at The Candy Factory (with free candy!).

How does it work? Tickets are required and can be reserved here (see right sidebar). Attendees will arrive at Lancaster Public Library, 125 N. Duke St., between 4:45 and 6:30 p.m., to pick up their ticket and a map. From there, they can plan the order of their stops, allowing a minimum of 90 minutes to visit all the locations. At each restaurant, a volunteer will greet the attendees, stamp the tickets, and give any specific instructions. While there, attendees are encouraged to take a look around, peek at the menu, and soak in the sights and aromas before heading off to the next destination.

This is not a "sit-down" progressive meal. Because of limited seating and time, you may eat while standing inside or outside the restaurants, or while walking to your next destination. Feel free to buy drinks and other menu items (either take-out or sit-down, as space and time allow).

Children four years of age and younger may share their parents' food and do not need a ticket. The event will be held rain or shine. Please contact us with any questions.

Can't wait for this event? Buy a Taste the World coupon book to hold you over.

*Please note that tickets must be picked up by 6:30 p.m. Any tickets that have not been picked up by 6:30 p.m. will be available for purchase on a first come, first served basis.
